Who is the Anti-Defamation League and what do they do?

From About.com

Question: Who is the Anti-Defamation League and what do they do?

Answer: For almost a century, the Anti-Defamation League has made great strides in combatting anti-semitism and bigotry in all forms. Their mission, first set forth in 1913 by a lawyer and fearless visionary by the name of Sigmund Livingston was established as follows:

"The immediate object of the League is to stop, by appeals to reason and conscience and, if necessary, by appeals to law, the defamation of the Jewish people. Its ultimate purpose is to secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end forever to unjust and unfair discrimination against and ridicule of any sect or body of citizens."
Starting with only two desks and $200, the organization has grown into a significant mover and shaker in the race relations field with international reach, exposing information, countering hate propoganda, educating Americans, bridging ethnic groups and sponsoring far-reaching campaigns.
